The KUAT Pivot v3 is Kuat's everyday swing-away hitch. It slides into your 2-inch receiver, your bike rack slides into the Pivot v3, and a quick-release latch lets the rack swing out to 90 or 120 degrees so you can get into your Sprinter's rear doors with the bikes still loaded.

Fits: Universal, any van or vehicle with a 2-inch, Class III or higher hitch receiver, including the Mercedes Sprinter. Not compatible: 1.25-inch, 3-inch or Class I/II receivers, hitch extenders or reducers, vertical hanging bike racks, towing, and RVs or motorhomes.

Why we carry the Pivot v3

On a Sprinter with a hitch bike rack, the rear doors are blocked until you unload or tilt the rack. The Pivot v3 adds a hinge between the receiver and the rack. Pull the pin, swing it aside, and the doors open with the bikes still strapped down.

Pivot v3 or Pivot XD?

The Pivot v3 is the lighter, everyday option at 51 lb and 250 lb capacity, made for platform bike racks. The Pivot XD carries 350 lb, takes vertical hanging racks, and accepts the MOLLE Accessory Hoop and Spare Tire Adapter. If you carry e-bikes, heavier cargo, or want a spare on the back, go with the XD.

The Pivot v3 slides into your receiver like any hitch accessory, with no drilling and no wiring. Kuat lists the assembly time as none, and includes the 8mm hex key for the hitch cam. Kuat's user guide shows each step.

Before you start

Confirm your receiver is 2-inch and Class III or higher. Kuat does not support 3-inch receivers or reducers.
Grab a helper to hold it level while you tighten the cam. Kuat recommends it.

Mistakes to avoid

Stacking extenders. The Pivot v3 already works as a hitch extension. Don't add a riser or extender.
Mounting a vertical rack. Vertical hanging racks aren't compatible with the Pivot v3. Use the Pivot XD for those.
Too many trays. Kuat recommends no more than a 3-bike platform rack on the Pivot v3.
Skipping the cam. Fully tighten the Flatlock cam after the hitch pin is in. Lifting slightly on the end helps it seat tight and level.
A lever that's too stiff or too loose. Use a 13mm wrench to slightly loosen or tighten the nuts on the U-bolt, then check that the lever opens and closes securely.
Towing, tarps and covers. Don't tow with it, and don't use tarps, rain covers or wind covers on the load.

How to choose a swing-away hitch for your van

1. Will it fit your receiver?

Swing-aways need a 2-inch receiver, Class III or higher, and they count as a hitch extender. Kuat does not rate its Pivot swing-aways for RVs or motorhomes.

How to choose: Confirm a 2-inch, Class III or higher receiver and your tongue weight rating first.

2. How much weight are you carrying?

How to choose: Add up the rack and bikes. Up to 250 lb on a platform rack fits the Pivot v3. Over that, or a long cargo setup, points to the Pivot XD.

3. Platform or vertical bike rack?

How to choose: Platform racks work on the Pivot v3. Vertical hanging racks need the Pivot XD.

4. Which side should it swing?

How to choose: Pick the side you want to stand on when the rack is open. Passenger side keeps you on the curb.

5. Do you want accessories?

How to choose: If you want a MOLLE panel or a spare tire on the back, go with the Pivot XD. The v3 doesn't take accessories.

Should I get the passenger or driver side version?

Passenger swings the rack toward the curb side, so you load and unload from the sidewalk. Driver swings toward the street side. Both open to 90 and 120 degrees.

How much weight can the Pivot v3 carry?

250 lb when the load stays within 28 in of the accessory hitch pin, and 150 lb from 28 to 40 in. Kuat recommends no more than a 3-bike platform rack. Stay under your vehicle's tongue weight rating too.

Can I use a vertical hanging bike rack on it?

No. Vertical hanging racks aren't compatible with the Pivot v3. The Pivot XD is approved for them.

Can I use it on an RV or a van titled as a motorhome?

Kuat does not approve the Pivot v3 for RVs, travel trailers or motorhomes. If your Sprinter is a factory-built Class B motorhome, reach out to our team before you order.

Can I add a hitch extender or riser?

No. The Pivot v3 already works as a hitch extension, and stacking extensions voids Kuat's warranty.

Pivot v3 or Pivot XD?

The Pivot v3 is lighter and rated to 250 lb for platform racks. The Pivot XD carries 350 lb, takes vertical racks, and accepts the MOLLE hoop and spare tire adapter.

Can I tow with the Pivot v3?

No. Remove it and use your receiver directly to tow.
