The KUAT Piston Pro X is Kuat's top 2-bike hitch rack. Everything in the Piston Pro, plus integrated LED taillights, genuine Kashima-coated struts, a Galaxy Gray finish and a security tool that locks into the rack. It carries bikes and e-bikes up to 67 lb each on a 2-inch receiver.

Fits: Universal, any van with a 2-inch hitch receiver, including the Mercedes Sprinter. Not compatible: 1.25-inch receivers (this listing is the 2-inch version); lights need a flat 4-pin connection and a 12V system.

Why we carry the Piston Pro X

Two bikes on the back of a Sprinter can hide the taillights. The Pro X brings its own LED lights, wired into the trays, so drivers behind you still see you brake and turn.

What makes the Piston family different

OneTap arms: tap the lever and the tire arms open on their own. Push them down until they click.
No frame contact: the arms hold the tires, so carbon frames and fresh paint stay untouched.
FastFit chocks: squeeze and slide to fit 18 to 32 in wheels, no tools.
Pedal pivot: fold the rack up or down with your foot.
Flatlock hitch cam and hitch lock: a tight, rattle-free fit in the receiver, locked.

Built to grow

The 2-inch Piston Pro X takes Kuat's 1-bike and 2-bike Add-Ons, up to 4 bikes total. Capacity per bike drops as you add trays: 67 lb with 2 bikes, 50 lb with 3, 40 lb with 4. Ask our team about Add-Ons.

Same capacity and Add-Ons. The Pro X adds LED taillights, Kashima-coated struts, Galaxy Gray finish and a security tool that locks into the rack. The Piston Pro skips the lights and comes in Sandy Black.

Getting into the back of the van

A hitch rack blocks the Sprinter's rear doors. Put the Pro X on a KUAT Pivot XD swing-away and the rack swings aside with the bikes still on.

The Pro X arrives as a centerbeam, trays and foot lever. The trays are pre-wired, so you plug each one in as you hang it. Plan on 30 minutes to an hour. Kuat's user guide shows each step.

Tips

Put the centerbeam in your hitch first. Kuat says it makes assembly much easier.
The 8mm security hex key lives at the front of the centerbeam. Unlock it, tighten the cam, and lock it back in.
Connect each tray's wiring harness before you hook it on, and feed extra wire into the centerbeam.
Torque the M10 x 165 tray bolts to 40 to 50 Nm, never over 50 Nm. The foot lever bolt is 15 Nm.

Lights on a Sprinter

The Pro X plugs into a flat 4-pin connector and needs a 12V system. If your van only has a 7-way connector, Kuat makes a 7 to 4 pin adapter. Some vans with factory tow packages flag LED lights as a burned-out bulb; an LED load adapter fixes that. Reach out to our team if you're not sure what your van has.

Mistakes to avoid

Using a bike cover or rain cover. Kuat says never. The wind load can break the rack.
Pinching the wiring. Feed extra wire into the centerbeam.
Stacking adapters on an RV. On a chassis-mounted RV hitch, use the 2-inch 2-bike setup only, at 42 lb per bike.

How to choose a hitch bike rack for your van

1. Will it fit your hitch?

How to choose: Sprinter receivers are 2-inch. Buy the 2-inch version for full capacity and Add-On support.

2. Do your bikes block the taillights?

On a Sprinter, two bikes on a hitch rack can cover the brake lights.

How to choose: If they do, pick a rack with its own LED lights, like the Pro X. Check that your van has a flat 4-pin connector or plan on an adapter.

3. How heavy are your bikes?

How to choose: E-bikes need a rack rated for them. The Pro X carries up to 67 lb per bike on the 2-bike setup.

4. How many bikes, now and later?

How to choose: Pick a rack that takes Add-Ons if the crew might grow.

Will the Piston Pro X fit my Mercedes Sprinter?

Yes. It fits any Sprinter with a 2-inch hitch receiver, and it's universal for any van, truck or SUV with one.

How do the lights connect?

Through the included flat 4-pin plug, on 12V systems only. If your van only has a 7-way connector, Kuat makes a 7 to 4 pin adapter. Reach out to our team if you're not sure what your van has.

My van shows a bulb-out warning with the rack plugged in. Why?

Some factory tow packages read LED lights as a burned-out bulb because LEDs draw so little current. An LED load adapter fixes it.

Can it carry e-bikes?

Yes. Up to 67 lb per bike on the 2-inch 2-bike setup. Add our Piston E-Bike Ramp to roll heavy bikes up.

What's the difference between the Pro X and the Piston Pro?

Same capacity and Add-Ons. The Pro X adds LED taillights, Kashima-coated struts, a Galaxy Gray finish and a locking security tool.

Can I use it on a camper van or RV?

Kuat approves the 2-inch 2-bike Pro X on chassis-mounted RV hitches at 42 lb per bike, with no Add-Ons, adapters or extenders. The hitch has to be chassis-mounted and within 64 in of the rear axle.

Why are my Kashima struts slightly different colors?

Kashima is a hard-anodizing process with natural batch-to-batch color variation. It doesn't affect performance.

Can I use a bike cover?

No. Kuat says covers create enough wind load to break the rack.
