The IOPEDAL from IOTuning (made in Germany) plugs in at your Sprinter's accelerator pedal and changes how quickly the engine answers your foot. Pick from four driving modes with five levels each, switch on the fly from a small wireless remote or the free IOTuning app, and lock the pedal out with secureMode when you walk away. This High Idle version adds a parked idle you can set from 1,200 to 2,000 RPM, so a secondary alternator can put real charge into your house battery system.

Why the IOPEDAL High Idle makes sense in a van

Stock pedal mapping is set up to suit every driver. The IOPEDAL lets you set it for how you drive a loaded build: a soft, smooth pedal for stop-and-go traffic and long highway days, or a quick, sharp one for merging and climbing grades. You change it from the remote without pulling over.

High Idle for parked charging

IOTuning built High Idle so a secondary alternator can make enough power to charge your battery system while the van sits. Set a target from 1,200 to 2,000 RPM in 100 RPM steps, set a run timer, and the engine holds that speed. It only works parked, with the parking brake fully set and the transmission in neutral or Park. The pedal is disabled while High Idle runs, and a light tap on the pedal turns it off.

The driving modes

offMode (white): stock pedal response.
trafficMode (blue): gentle response for city driving and traffic.
ecoMode (green): smooth, efficient response for long days on the highway.
sportMode (red): quicker response for merging and passing.
xtremeMode (purple): the most responsive setting.

Every mode has five levels, and Flavor Select adds Normal, Power or Precise versions of all of them.

Security built in

secureMode disables the accelerator pedal on the next start, so the van won't drive without the remote. valetMode caps power at one of five levels for a valet, a new driver, or anyone else behind the wheel. Both stay set across key cycles until you turn them off.

This is a plug-in install with no cutting and no ECU changes, and it unplugs to return the van to stock. There are two connections. The main harness goes between the accelerator pedal and its factory plug in the driver footwell. The High Idle lead runs through the firewall grommet at the upper left of the driver footwell to the camshaft sensor on top of the engine, and the air filter housing comes out to reach it.

IOTuning has a separate install guide for the 2.0L four-cylinder (OM654) and the 3.0L V6 (OM642). We don't post them here. Email products@sandyvans.com and we'll send the one for your engine. IOTuning doesn't publish an install time, so reach out if you'd like help planning the job or want it installed.

Mistakes to avoid

Starting right after you shut the van off. Wait at least 10 minutes with the ignition off.
Leaving a keyless key nearby. Keep it well out of range so the pedal doesn't wake up while you work.
Plugging the camshaft sensor connector in upside down. It can mate rotated 180 degrees, which can cause faults or damage. Match the orientation to the guide photos.
Leaving the module loose. Zip-tie it firmly in the cabin, clear of the pedals and steering column.
Routing the High Idle lead near hot or moving engine parts. Tie it along the bulkhead.
Leaving the V6 oil filler opening uncovered. Cover it with a clean cloth while the neck is off.
Skipping auto-ranging. Press the pedal slowly to full throttle, including kick-down, hold about 2 seconds, and repeat twice.

How to choose a throttle tuner for your Sprinter

1. Engine and year

Throttle tuners use engine-specific harnesses, so fitment comes first. The two IOPEDAL High Idle variants cover the 2023+ 2.0L four-cylinder diesel and the 2007 to 2022 3.0L V6 diesel.

How to choose: match the variant to your engine. Gas Sprinters, the eSprinter and the 2.1L four-cylinder diesel are not supported. For 2007 to 2013 vans, reach out first.

2. Do you need High Idle?

A throttle tuner on its own changes pedal response. High Idle adds a parked idle speed, which IOTuning designed for vans running a secondary alternator to charge a house battery system.

How to choose: if you charge house batteries from a secondary alternator, get a tuner with High Idle. If you only want sharper pedal response, a tuner without it covers that.

3. How you want to control it

Some tuners are app-only. Others give you a physical remote you can reach without looking at a phone.

How to choose: if you'll switch modes while driving, pick one with a dash-mounted remote and keep the app for setup.

4. Install comfort

Pedal-only tuners plug in at the footwell. A High Idle unit also needs a connection at the camshaft sensor in the engine bay, which means removing the air filter housing.

How to choose: if you're comfortable pulling the air box and routing a lead through the firewall, it's a DIY job. If not, plan for help.

5. Security

A van full of gear parked at a trailhead or on a city street is a target. A pedal lockout adds a layer on top of the factory immobilizer.

How to choose: if your van spends nights in public places, look for a tuner with a pedal lockout mode.

Which IOPEDAL variant do I need?

Pick 4-cyl Diesel 2023+ for 2023 and newer Sprinters with the 2.0L four-cylinder diesel (OM654). Pick 6-cyl Diesel 2007-22 for 2007 to 2022 Sprinters with the 3.0L V6 diesel (OM642). For a 2007 to 2013 van, or if you are not sure which engine you have, email products@sandyvans.com before ordering.

Does it fit a gas Sprinter or the eSprinter?

No. The IOPEDAL High Idle is made for the diesel engines listed above. Gas Sprinters, the eSprinter and the 2.1L four-cylinder diesel are not supported.

How does High Idle work?

With the van parked, the parking brake fully set and the transmission in neutral or Park, set a target from 1,200 to 2,000 RPM and a run timer in the IOTuning app. The pedal is disabled while High Idle runs, and a light tap on the pedal turns it off.

Do I need a second alternator to use High Idle?

IOTuning designed High Idle to let a secondary alternator make enough power to charge a house battery system. If your charging setup is different, reach out and we will talk through whether it helps your build.

Does the IOPEDAL modify my ECU?

No. It plugs in between factory connectors at the accelerator pedal and the camshaft sensor, with no cutting and no ECU changes, and unplugs to return the van to stock.

Can I install it myself?

Yes, if you are comfortable working in the footwell and removing the air filter housing to reach the camshaft sensor. We send IOTuning's engine-specific install guide on request. If you would rather have help, reach out.

Is it legal to use on the street in California?

IOTuning's manual states that in the USA, and California in particular, the IOPEDAL is intended only for racing vehicles not operated on public roads. Check the rules where you live, and reach out with any questions.

What does secureMode do?

secureMode disables the accelerator pedal on the next start, so the van will not drive until the paired remote connects. IOTuning recommends not leaving the remote in the van while secureMode or valetMode is on.

Will it fit my Sprinter-based RV?

Many Class B RVs ride on the diesel Sprinter chassis, so the IOPEDAL often fits. Fitment depends on the engine, year and trim, so send us your VIN or build details and we will confirm.

What warranty does it have?

IOTuning covers the IOPEDAL with a 24-month limited warranty against defects in materials and workmanship for the original purchaser. Reach out and we will help with any claim.
