Exterior Color: White

Real air conditioning that runs straight off your battery bank. No generator, no giant inverter.

The VELIT 2000R is a DC-powered rooftop air conditioner with an inverter-driven twin-cylinder rotary compressor. It draws as little as 20A on a 12V system, keeps cooling in heat up to 126°F, and sits only 7.1 in tall on the roof. Choose the voltage that matches your house battery bank.

Fits: universal, any van, RV, truck camper or trailer with a flat roof section for a 14 x 14 in opening. Sprinters have no factory roof opening, so plan on cutting one. Not compatible: roofs sloped more than 15 degrees or spots closer than 10 in to the roof edge.

  • Runs on DC: 12V, 24V or 48V models, no large inverter needed
  • Up to 10,000 BTU (48V), 9,000 BTU (24V) or 8,000 BTU (12V) of cooling
  • Low profile: 7.1 in above the roof, fits a standard 14 x 14 in opening
  • Four modes: Sleep, Eco, Cooling and Turbo; Eco runs about 250 to 300W
  • Complete kit: brackets, gasket, hardware, interior trim panel, remote and a 15 ft fused harness

Choose your variant:

  • 12V: 20 to 60A, 8,000 BTU, 650W rated, 6 AWG harness
  • 24V: 10 to 33A, 9,000 BTU, 750W rated, 8 AWG harness
  • 48V: 5 to 18A, 10,000 BTU, 850W rated, 12 AWG harness
  • Shroud color: white or black on every voltage; gray on 12V. The interior panel is black on all models.

Sealant for van roofs is not included. Comparing rooftop units? Read our van air conditioner buyer's guide, and size your batteries with a 206Ah heated lithium battery.

Why a DC rooftop AC

Household-style rooftop units need shore power, a generator or a very large inverter. The VELIT 2000R runs straight off your batteries through an inverter-driven compressor, so it can ramp down in Eco mode and keep a van cool through a hot night without a generator.

What's in the box

  • AC unit
  • Mounting brackets and hardware
  • Sealing gasket
  • Interior trim panel
  • Remote control
  • 15 ft wiring harness with in-line fuse
  • User manual

Picking 12V, 24V or 48V

Most vans run a 12V house system, and the 12V 2000R is built for it. If your build runs 24V or 48V, the higher-voltage models draw far less current and put out more cooling, which means lighter wiring and less strain on the batteries.

Plan your power

On 12V the unit can pull up to 60A at full output. Size your battery bank, wiring and charging to match how long you want to run it. Our van air conditioner buyer's guide walks through sizing.

Fitment & Compatibility

Fits: Universal: vans, RVs, truck campers, trailers

Not compatible with: Roof slope over 15 degrees; less than 10 in from roof edge

Install Time2 to 3 hours
DIY FriendlyAdvanced; roof cut and DC wiring
Drilling RequiredYes, roof opening cut required on vans

The 2000R installs over a 14 x 14 in roof opening. On a Sprinter or other van with no factory opening, you'll cut one. The included gasket seals flat RV roofs; van roofs need sealant, which isn't included. Plan on 2 to 3 hours of install time once the opening and wiring path are ready.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Placing the unit on a slope over 15 degrees or closer than 10 in to the roof edge.
  • Forgetting interior clearance. Leave 6 in around the opening for the interior panel.
  • Overtightening the mounting brackets. VELIT specs 3.3 to 4.2 lb-ft.
  • Undersized cable on long runs. Past 15 ft, size the cable to NEC for a 60A load (12V).

How to choose a van air conditioner

1. Will it fit your roof?

How to choose: Check for a flat section with room for the unit and an opening. The 2000R uses a 14 x 14 in opening and needs under 15 degrees of slope and 10 in from the roof edge.

2. What voltage is your battery bank?

How to choose: Buy the model that matches your house system: 12V, 24V or 48V. Higher voltage means lower current and more cooling.

3. How long do you need to run it?

How to choose: Multiply the draw by your run time. Eco mode at 250 to 300W stretches battery life; Turbo uses up to 680W.

4. How hot does it get where you camp?

How to choose: Pick a unit rated for your worst heat. The 2000R keeps cooling up to 126°F.

5. Height and looks

How to choose: Low-profile units clear garages and look cleaner. The 2000R stands 7.1 in tall in white, black or gray (12V).

Before you order

  • Battery bank voltage confirmed
  • Roof spot measured and checked for slope
  • Sealant planned for a van roof
  • Wiring run length measured

How the VELIT 2000R stacks up

  • Power: runs on DC, no big inverter.
  • Output: 8,000 to 10,000 BTU depending on voltage.
  • Profile: 7.1 in tall, standard 14 x 14 in opening.
  • Efficiency: Eco mode at 250 to 300W.
  • Read the full van air conditioner buyer's guide.
Which voltage should I pick?
Match your house battery bank. A 12V bank needs the 12V model, which pulls 20 to 60A. On a 24V or 48V system the current drops a lot (5 to 18A at 48V) and cooling goes up to 9,000 or 10,000 BTU.
Does the VELIT 2000R need an inverter?
No. It runs directly on DC power from your battery bank, so you skip the large inverter a household-style rooftop AC needs.
Will it fit my Sprinter?
It's universal. Sprinters don't have a factory roof opening, so you'll cut a 14 x 14 in hole in a flat section of the roof, at least 10 in from the edge and with less than 15 degrees of slope. Allow 6 in of clear space inside around the opening for the interior panel.
Is sealant included?
No. Flat RV roofs can use the included gasket, but van roofs have ribs and curves, so you'll need sealant. We don't sell it. Our van air conditioner buyer's guide covers roof prep, or have an experienced builder handle the install.
What colors does it come in?
White or black shrouds on the 12V, 24V and 48V models, and gray on the 12V. The interior panel is black on every model.
How loud is it?
About 45 dB in Eco mode and 58 dB in Boost, per VELIT.
Can I install it myself?
Experienced DIYers can. It involves cutting the roof, sealing it and running heavy DC cable. If you'd rather have it done, reach out to our team at products@sandyvans.com or (619) 812-1903.
Do you install products for customers?
Yes. Many SV products can be professionally installed at our San Diego shop. Reach out to our team to schedule. Email products@sandyvans.com or call 619-812-1903.
