Color: Anodized Black

A stronger base for everything on your roof.

These aluminum roof rails bolt into your Sprinter's factory roof holes and give racks, crossbars, solar and lighting a heavier-duty mounting base than the stock rails. Same mounting points as factory, beefier profile.

Fits: 2007+ Mercedes Sprinter, 144 in, 170 in or 170 in Extended (choose your variant). Interior ceiling panels must come out to reach the nuts.

  • No drilling: uses the factory roof holes
  • Heavier profile than the factory rails, same mounting points
  • M8 square-head bolts, washers, self-locking nuts and sealing tape included
  • About 30 minutes to 1 hour for two people

Choose your variant: 144 in kit (114.6 in rails) or 170 in kit (152.0 in rails) in anodized black or satin silver; 170 in Extended kit in anodized black.

Building a rack? Our SV Sandbar Roof Rack mounts to these rails; it's what we run on vans without factory rails. Mount accessories with the Sprinter Roof Rail T-Bolt 8 pack.

See it on your van. Add the Sprinter Roof Rails | Roof Tracks to your build in our 3D Van Builder and preview it on a real Sprinter before you buy.

Why upgrade the roof rails

Every rooftop build starts at the rails. These follow the factory dimensions and mounting points, so they drop onto your Sprinter's existing roof holes, but the profile is heavier for more strength under racks, solar and gear.

What you get

  • Two roof rails (the 170 in kit ships as two pieces per side)
  • Custom M8 square-head bolts, washers and self-locking nuts
  • Weather sealing tape

Good to know

  • Built by Tec Vanlife.
  • Interior ceiling panels come out during install.

Two people, standard tools, about 30 minutes to an hour once the ceiling panels are out. The rails bolt through the factory roof holes and tighten from inside the van with the included washers and self-locking nuts. The install manual is linked on this page. Mistakes to avoid

  • Forgetting the ceiling panels; you need inside access to every mounting point
  • Installing in a wet channel; dry it first so the bolts drop in smooth
  • Flipping the washer; the flat side goes against the roof
  • Skipping the sealing tape on any bolt

Tools You'll Need

  • Socket set or impact driver
  • Allen key or screwdriver to hold the bolt
  • Chisel and hammer for the roof caps
  • Solvent and rags
  • Ladder
  • A helper

How to choose Sprinter roof rails

1. Wheelbase

Rails are cut to length for the 144 in, 170 in or 170 in Extended Sprinter.

How to choose: Order the kit that matches your wheelbase.

2. Factory or upgraded

Factory rails work for light loads. Upgraded rails use the same mounting points with a heavier profile.

How to choose: Planning a full rack, solar array or heavy gear? Upgrade.

3. What you'll mount

Racks, crossbars, solar, awnings and lights each need their own brackets or hardware.

How to choose: List your accessories first and confirm each has a mounting option for Sprinter rails.

4. Install access

The nuts tighten from inside, so ceiling panels or the headliner come out.

How to choose: Install rails before your ceiling goes in, or plan the time to pull it.

Before you order

  • Confirm wheelbase: 144, 170 or 170 Extended
  • Pick a finish
  • Plan ceiling access
  • Order extra T-bolts if you're mounting accessories

How these rails stack up

  • Fit: 2007+ Sprinter 144, 170 and 170 Extended
  • Strength: heavier profile than factory on the same mounting points
  • Install: no drilling, two people, about an hour
  • Rack: our SV Sandbar Roof Rack mounts to these rails
  • Accessories: mount with the Sprinter Roof Rail T-Bolt 8 pack
Which kit fits my van?
Match the kit to your wheelbase: 144 in, 170 in or 170 in Extended. Install is the same on every model; only the rail length changes.
Do I need to drill?
No. Pop off the factory plastic roof caps to expose the OEM mounting holes.
Do the ceiling panels have to come out?
Yes. The nuts and washers go on from inside the van, so the interior ceiling panels or headliner need to come out to reach the mounting points.
Can one person install them?
Plan on two: one on the roof holding the bolt, one inside tightening the nut. Experienced installers take about 30 minutes; first-timers about an hour.
Is it waterproof?
The kit includes weather sealing tape for each bolt. For extra protection many installers also add butyl tape or silicone around the hardware.
What can I mount to them?
Roof racks, crossbars, solar panels, awnings and lighting, using the right brackets or hardware for each accessory. Our SV Sandbar Roof Rack mounts to these rails, and it's what we use on vans without factory rails (the Sandbar is for high roof Sprinters).
What bolts do the rails use?
Standard M8 thread with custom 25 x 25 mm square heads that sit inside the rail channel. Extra bolts come in our Sprinter Roof Rail T-Bolt 8 pack.
Will they work on a passenger Sprinter?
Yes, but it's a big job. The full headliner has to come out to reach the mounting points from inside.
Black or silver?
Both finishes resist corrosion; pick the one that matches your van and rack. The 170 Extended kit comes in black.
