The GoCode FOLD Shower is a complete van shower that lives flat against a wall or inside a cabinet. Pull the handle, fold the pan down, zip up the magnetic curtain and you're showering in under a minute. When you're done it folds back to about 3-3/8 in deep, so the same floor space goes back to being a hallway or gear area. The FOLD is the current version of the Tetravan Folding Shower, built and shipped by GoCode.

Fits: Universal, any van (Sprinter, Transit, ProMaster), trailers, boats and RVs with a wall or cabinet opening for the unit. Not compatible: builds without about 3 in of clearance behind the unit for plumbing, or without a drain path for the 1.5 in drain fitting.

Why a folding shower

A permanent wet bath takes a big piece of a van floor plan and you only use it a few minutes a day. The FOLD gives you a full stand-up shower with a pan, curtain and hot and cold mixer, then folds back into the wall so that space works as a hallway, entry or gear area the rest of the time.

Where it fits in a build

The unit mounts into a cabinet or wall cutout. In our Scout layout we built it into the hallway partition. Our hallways are 25 in wide, which lines up well with the deployed pan. Anywhere you have a wall, about 3 in of space behind it for plumbing, and a path for the drain will work.

The FOLD drops into a cabinet or wall cutout and screws to the wall. GoCode estimates 1 to 2 hours for the mount and drain. Hot and cold plumbing to the mixer valve is on top of that and depends on your water system. Watch our video on this page to see one set up in a Sandy Vans build.

Cutout and drain layout (from GoCode's install guide)

Cutout: 22 in wide x 30-3/4 in tall (the body itself is 23-3/8 in wide)
Drain centerline: 11 in in from the line marking the back of the flange
Drain center: 1-3/4 in off the mounting surface line (the pan base is 3-1/2 in deep)
Drain hole: 3-1/8 in hole saw, larger than the 1.5 in drain pipe
Plumbing clearance: about 3 in behind the unit at roughly 27 in off the floor

Mistakes to avoid

Drill a small exploratory hole before the drain hole and check under the van for brake lines, fuel lines, struts or other mechanicals.
Plan where the water goes before you cut. Route it to a grey tank, or do what we did in our Scout build and drain through the subfloor and chassis out the bottom of the van.
Plan how you'll hang the top of the curtain. The curtain has loops along the top but no hanging hardware. In our builds we set small wooden washers with magnets into the ceiling and hang each curtain loop on a magnet hook.
Leave room behind the wall for the hot and cold lines before you close up the cabinet.

How to choose a van shower

1. Do you have the floor space for a permanent shower?

A fixed wet bath or in-floor pan claims its footprint full time. A folding shower only takes floor space while it's open.

How to choose: If your layout can't give up a permanent shower footprint, go with a folding shower. If you have the floor space and want the simplest daily use, an in-floor pan like the Stainless Steel In-Floor Shower Pan works.

2. Where will it mount?

The FOLD needs a wall or cabinet cutout 22 in wide x 30-3/4 in tall and about 3 in of space behind it for plumbing.

How to choose: Measure your wall or partition first. Hallway partitions and cabinet ends next to the galley are common spots.

3. Where will the water drain?

Every shower needs a drain path from the fitting to a grey tank or out of the van, clear of anything under the floor.

How to choose: Pick the spot where the drain clears the chassis and reaches your tank or exit point, then plan the shower around it.

4. How will you heat the water?

The mixer valve takes hot and cold supply lines, so the shower is only as good as your hot water source.

How to choose: Pair it with a water heater sized for your use. See the Duoetto Gen 3 or the Aqueous 6L.

5. Do you need to reach a bed above it?

In bulkhead layouts the shower often sits under an elevated bed.

How to choose: Add the Lightweight Ladder for the FOLD Shower, which hooks onto the shower handle with no extra wall holes.
