No black tank. No dump station. No water. Just press a button and go.

The R1808 is a fixed-mount dry flush toilet that heat-seals every use into its own odor-tight bag, then drops it into a hidden storage bowl. There is nothing to plumb, nothing to vent and no tank to dump, so it drops into tight van bathrooms and wet baths where a cassette or composting toilet won't fit. It runs off your 12V or 24V house battery (or the included charger) and uses about 0.4 Wh per flush.

Fits: Universal, any van, RV, boat or tiny home with a level floor and 12V or 24V DC power. Designed for compact Mercedes Sprinter and camper van bathrooms. Not compatible: direct shower spray zones or high-humidity rooms (splash resistant only with the lid and door closed).

  • Waterless: no fresh water, no black tank, no plumbing or vent holes
  • Odor-tight: each use is heat-sealed in 2 to 3 minutes, with coagulant to gel liquids
  • Small footprint: 17.4 x 14.4 in base, home-height 17.9 in seat, 330 lb capacity
  • Swivel top: the upper unit turns 90 degrees each way to fit corners and odd layouts
  • Built-in battery: about 100 flushes per charge, wired to your house system or charged from an outlet

Product Details

A van toilet with nothing to dump

Most van toilets trade one chore for another: a cassette needs dumping, a composting toilet needs a vent fan and regular emptying. The R1808 skips both. A continuous roll of bioplastic film lines the bowl. When you're done, you press one button and the toilet pulls the bag down, heat-seals it closed and cuts it free. The sealed bag drops into a storage bowl behind a sliding door, and a fresh liner is ready for the next person.

How a flush works

  1. Sprinkle in a packet of coagulant (optional, it turns liquids into gel and helps with odor).
  2. Close the lid and the sliding door, then hold the Action button for 2 seconds.
  3. The toilet seals and separates the bag in about 2 to 3 minutes. A short beep tells you it's done.
  4. Pull the sealed bag from the storage bowl and toss it like a diaper, following your local trash rules.

Light use? Press Plus and Action together for a smaller bag that stretches your refills further. Need a bigger bag? Hold Plus to feed more film before you seal.

Why it works in a van

  • No holes in the van: no vent fan, no plumbing, no tank under the floor.
  • Weight and space back: the toilet weighs 21.4 lb and needs about 15.7 in of width, with no tank or hoses eating up storage.
  • Power you won't notice: about 0.4 Wh per flush and 0.05 Wh on standby. The 55.5 Wh battery stays topped up from your house system, so it keeps working even if the power is switched off.
  • Flexible layout: the top half rotates 90 degrees left or right, so the seat can face where you need it.

The R1808 is made by Modiwell and carries an 18-month limited manufacturer warranty. Sandy Vans is in San Diego, and a real person answers at products@sandyvans.com or (619) 812-1903 if you want help planning your bathroom layout.

What's in the Box

  • R1808 dry flush toilet
  • Storage bowl for sealed bags
  • Urine tank
  • Starter refill kit (2 refill bag rolls and 2 coagulant packs, about 60 uses)
  • Charger (AC power supply)
  • Mounting jig
  • Spare 3A and 7.5A fuses
  • User manual
DIY FriendlyYes, with basic 12V wiring skills (pro wiring recommended)
Drilling RequiredYes, four floor screws (plus an optional side cable hole)

Plan on a simple floor-mount install: four screws into the floor and one 12V or 24V DC connection. Modiwell recommends having a professional do the wiring. If you can't wire it in, the included charger plugs into a standard outlet and the toilet runs off its own battery between charges. The Modiwell user manual is linked below and walks through every step with diagrams.

Before you start

  • Pick a level spot. Keep the center of the toilet at least 8.7 in (220 mm) from the wall and leave room to open the sliding door at the front.
  • Check headroom: the toilet stands 34.4 in tall with the lid open.
  • Decide on cable routing: through the open bottom of the base, or out the side through the alternate cable opening (up to 7/8 in, 22 mm) with a watertight sleeve.
  • Set your power source to 9 to 30V DC. Higher voltage can damage the circuit board.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Lifting the cover from the front. Always lift the lid unit about 4 in at the rear first, then pull it forward.
  • Skipping the fuses. Pull the internal 7.5A and external 3A fuses before you install or wire anything.
  • Swapping the wires. Red is positive and black is negative.
  • Mounting it loose. The toilet is top-heavy, so screw it down through all four holes for travel.
  • Using other bags. Only Modiwell LooSeal refill bags work reliably, and other bags void the warranty.
  • Letting the battery go flat. A fully drained battery locks into a protective mode that won't reset on its own. Keep it plugged in, or charge it about every two weeks.
  • Overfilling the storage bowl. Empty it once it holds 3 sealed bags so they don't block the next seal.
  • Leaving coagulant within reach of kids or pets. It swells when wet and is a choking hazard if swallowed.

Install time depends on your bathroom and wiring run. Want it done for you? Reach out to our team at products@sandyvans.com or (619) 812-1903 about a shop install in San Diego.

Picking a van toilet comes down to where it goes, how you'll power it and how you want to deal with waste. Here's what to check, in the order customers usually ask.

1. Will it fit your bathroom?

Measure the floor space, the clearance to the wall and the headroom with the lid open. Fixed toilets also need room for whatever opens on the front, like a door or drawer.

How to choose: make sure you have a level floor, at least 15.7 in of width and room to open the toilet's access door.

2. Fixed or portable?

A fixed toilet is screwed down and wired in, so it stays put on rough roads. A portable one moves around but has to be strapped in for travel.

How to choose: go fixed if you have a dedicated bathroom or wet bath. Go portable if the toilet lives in a cabinet or under a bench.

3. How do you want to handle waste?

Cassette toilets hold waste in a tank you empty at a dump station. Composting toilets separate liquids and need a vent fan and regular emptying. Bagging toilets seal each use so you toss it in household trash.

How to choose: if you'd rather never visit a dump station or cut a vent hole, look at a sealing toilet.

4. Power

Electric toilets draw from your house battery. Look at how much power each flush uses and whether it has its own battery as a backup.

How to choose: pick one that runs on your system voltage and doesn't make a dent in your battery bank.

5. Water and humidity

Wet baths get splashed. Check the splash rating and whether the toilet has to be closed to be protected.

How to choose: in a wet bath, choose a toilet that is sealed when closed and keep it out of direct shower spray.

6. Ongoing supplies

Every toilet type needs something: chemicals, composting medium or bags. Find out what you'll need to keep on hand and how long it lasts.

How to choose: know your refill and make sure you have room to store a few weeks' worth.

Before you order

  • Measured floor width, depth and wall clearance
  • Checked headroom with the lid open (34.4 in)
  • Have a 12V or 24V DC circuit nearby, or an outlet for the charger
  • Planned where the sliding door opens
  • Planned your refill bag and coagulant supply

How the R1808 stacks up

  • Fit: 17.4 x 14.4 in footprint, 15.7 in minimum width, and a top that swivels 90 degrees each way.
  • Mounting: fixed install with four floor screws and an included mounting jig.
  • Waste: heat-sealed bags, no tank, no vent, no dump station.
  • Power: 9 to 30V DC, about 0.4 Wh per flush, with a 55.5 Wh built-in battery good for about 100 flushes.
  • Water: IPX4 splash resistant when the lid and door are closed.
  • Supplies: starter kit included (about 60 uses). Reach out to our team for refill bags and coagulant.

Does the R1808 need water, plumbing or a vent?
No. It's fully waterless. There is no fresh water hookup, no black tank and no vent fan, so you don't cut any holes in the van for it.
Will it fit my van?
It's universal and fits any van, RV, boat or tiny home with a level floor and 12V or 24V DC power. You need about 15.7 in of width, 17.4 in of depth, 34.4 in of headroom with the lid open, and the toilet's center at least 8.7 in from the wall. Leave room to open the sliding door at the front. Send us your measurements at products@sandyvans.com and we'll check your layout.
Will it work in my Revel, Storyteller or other Sprinter-based RV?
Usually, yes, since it's a universal fixed toilet. Fit depends on your bathroom's floor space, wall clearance and access to 12V power, which varies by model and trim. Reach out to our team with your RV model and we'll help you check it.
How do I power it?
Wire it to a fused 12V or 24V DC circuit (red to positive, black to negative), and the built-in battery charges itself whenever there's power. No wiring option? The included charger plugs into a standard outlet. A full charge takes about 2.5 hours and covers about 100 flushes.
What happens if the battery dies?
Keep it plugged in, or charge it about every two weeks if it isn't wired in. If the battery drains completely, it goes into a protective mode that won't reset on its own. Don't open the toilet or replace the battery yourself. Reach out to our team and we'll help you get it sorted with the manufacturer.
Does it smell?
Each use is heat-sealed into its own bag, and the bags stay odor-tight for about two weeks and leak-proof for longer. The optional coagulant turns liquids into gel for extra odor and leak protection.
What do I do with the sealed bags?
They drop into a storage bowl behind the sliding door. Empty it once it holds 3 bags so they don't block the next seal. Dispose of them in household trash like diapers, following your local rules. The bags are biodegradable, but they don't go in a compost pile.
Can I put it in a wet bath?
Yes, with care. It's IPX4 splash resistant only when the lid and sliding door are closed. Keep it out of direct shower spray, ventilate the room, and don't run it in very humid conditions.
What refills does it use?
Modiwell LooSeal refill bags plus coagulant packets. A starter kit of about 60 uses comes in the box. Use only genuine refill bags, since others can cause malfunctions and void the warranty. An opened bag roll starts to break down after about 6 months, so swap it within 3 months. Reach out to our team for refills.
Can I turn the toilet to face a different direction?
Yes. The top half rotates 90 degrees left or right, so you can angle the seat to fit a corner or an odd-shaped bathroom.
Is the coagulant safe?
Treat it like a household chemical. It swells when wet and is a choking hazard if swallowed, so store it out of reach of kids and pets, avoid breathing the powder, and never pour it down a drain or sink.
Who makes it and what's the warranty?
It's made by Modiwell and covered by an 18-month limited manufacturer warranty. If anything goes wrong, contact Sandy Vans at products@sandyvans.com or (619) 812-1903 and we'll help with the claim.
