SV Starboard Rack

$1,599.00
Add-On's

The passenger side of your Sprinter's rear door deserves the same treatment as the driver side. The SV Starboard Rack covers it.

Aluminum build, powder-coat black finish, mounts to the two bolt holes built into your Sprinter's 180° door hinges and the factory Mercedes emblem location. Zero holes drilled in the door panel — take it off clean whenever you need to.

Fits: 2019+ Mercedes-Benz Sprinter VS30 & eSprinter · 144" / 170" / 170" EXT · High Roof
Requires: Factory 180° rear door hinges (not compatible with 270° hinges)

Not compatible with: Ford Transit · Ram ProMaster · Sprinter NCV3 (2007–2018)

  • Mounts to the 2 bolt holes in the factory Sprinter 180° hinges — no drilling through the door panel
  • 3/8" carriage bolt + 1/4" hole pattern — same accessories as the Port Rack
  • 150 lb load capacity
  • 1–2 hour DIY install with basic tools
  • Bump stops included — with a loaded rack, the door won't swing to a full 180°; bump stops protect the van body
  • Pairs with the Port Rack (driver side) for full rear-door coverage

No drilling, ever. Most rear door racks that push past 150 lbs require drilling through the door panel. The Starboard Rack uses the factory Mercedes emblem mounting holes — positioned higher on the door in a structurally stronger part of the frame. Your door is never drilled and the rack is fully reversible. The emblem can be reinstalled if you ever remove the rack.

Choose your variant: Select Starboard Rack + 180° Rear Door Hinges (Passenger Side) if your VS30 or eSprinter doesn't have the passenger-side 180° hinge upgrade yet — standard factory hinges, 270° hinges, and NCV3 door structures are not compatible. If you already have passenger-side 180° hinges, order the rack only.

Product Details

The passenger-side rear door is just as useful as the driver side. The SV Starboard Rack gets it there.

Where the Port Rack uses the license plate area as its secondary mount, the Starboard Rack uses the factory holes behind the Mercedes emblem. Same outcome — a solid, no-drill attachment to the factory door structure — different hardware to get there.

The face runs the same 3/8" carriage bolt + 1/4" hole pattern as the Port Rack, so every SV exterior accessory works on either side. Load it with the Boost Box Mini, a spare tire, a bike, or whatever the trip calls for. Aluminum construction and powder-coat black finish mean it handles salt air, mud, and years of Baja without issue.

The Starboard Rack is designed as the second half of a complete rear-door setup. Pair it with the Port Rack (driver side) and your entire rear door width becomes organized, accessible cargo space.

If your Sprinter doesn't have passenger-side 180-degree hinges yet, the bundle variant ships them with the rack so everything arrives together.

The Starboard Rack follows the same approach as the Port Rack but uses the Mercedes emblem zone instead of the license plate area as its secondary anchor point.

Emblem removal

Back out the Torx bolts first, then apply steady, even rearward force to pull the emblem free — it has adhesive backing in addition to the bolts. Pull straight back; avoid torqueing to one side to avoid cracking the paint surround. The emblem is reusable if you want to keep it.

Extension bracket

The extension bracket uses the same holes the emblem was bolted into. Peel the VHB backing, line up the holes, and press into place before tightening. As with the Port Rack license plate backer: alignment before adhesive contact is important. Once it sticks, repositioning is difficult.

Tightening sequence

Get everything finger-tight first — extension bracket bolts to the door and hinge bolts. Attach the rack face hardware to the extension bracket and fully tighten it. Then lock down the extension bracket-to-door bolts, then the hinge bolts. Tightening out of sequence can pull the rack slightly off square.

Bump stops

Same installation as the Port Rack: large bump stop on the bottom hinge, small on top. Tap the cotter pins in gently using the factory holes in the hinge casting — leave them halfway out so the bump stop has something to catch on.

How to Choose the Right Sprinter Rear Door Rack

The rear door on your Sprinter is underused exterior real estate. A rear door rack converts it into an active accessory mount — for bikes, spare tires, fuel cans, shovels, or a full storage box. Here's how to pick the right setup.

1. Which side do you need?

The Starboard Rack is the passenger-side rack. Think about which side you reach most often and where your cargo lives. It's also the natural companion to the Port Rack (driver side) for full rear-door coverage. Both racks run the same face pattern, so any SV accessory works on either side.

2. 180° hinges vs. 270° hinges — this matters for compatibility

The Starboard Rack requires 180° Sprinter hinges. The rack mounts to two bolt holes that are built into the 180° hinge design. Those holes are the anchor point for the no-drill mounting method.

270° hinges use a different mechanism and don't have those same two holes. If you have 270° hinges, the rack cannot mount to them. Reach out to us at contact@sandyvans.com before ordering if you're not sure which hinges you have.

If your Sprinter doesn't have passenger-side 180° hinges yet, the bundle variant includes them so everything ships together.

Door swing with a loaded rack: with 180° hinges and accessories mounted, the door won't open to a true 180°. The cargo contacts the bump stops before reaching full extension. That's intentional — the bump stops prevent a loaded rack from swinging into the van body.

3. What are you mounting?

The rack face runs a 3/8" carriage bolt pattern and a 1/4" threaded hole grid. SV Boost Box Mini, SV spare tire bracket, and KUAT bike racks bolt directly in. Reach out at contact@sandyvans.com if you have a specific accessory in mind.

4. Load capacity and the no-drill trade-off

No holes in your door — ever. Most rear door racks that push past 150 lbs drill through the door panel for a stronger anchor. The Starboard Rack uses the factory Mercedes emblem mounting holes — positioned higher on the door, in a structurally stronger part of the frame, and already there. Your door is never drilled and the rack is fully reversible.

5. Starboard vs. Port Rack

Same aluminum build, same finish, same hole pattern. Differences: Starboard anchors to the Mercedes emblem zone (passenger side, 150 lb capacity), Port anchors to the license plate zone (driver side, 100 lb capacity). Capacity difference is driven by where each mounting location sits structurally on the door. Both no-drill. Both reversible.

Pre-order checklist

  • Your Sprinter is a 2019+ VS30 (144", 170", or 170" EXT)
  • You have 180° hinges — NOT 270° hinges (reach out if unsure)
  • You know whether you have the passenger-side 180° hinges already, or need the bundle
  • You have a plan for the accessories you're attaching (total load under 150 lbs)

Questions? Call us at (619) 812-1903 or email contact@sandyvans.com.

Does the Starboard Rack require drilling into the door?
No. The Starboard Rack mounts using the factory holes behind the Mercedes emblem and the factory 180° hinge bolts. No drilling into the door panel is required at any point in the install.
What year Sprinters does the Starboard Rack fit?
The Starboard Rack fits 2019+ Mercedes-Benz Sprinter VS30 models — 144", 170", and 170" Extended wheelbase.
Will it fit my NCV3 Sprinter (2007–2018)?
No. The Starboard Rack is designed specifically for the 2019+ Mercedes-Benz Sprinter VS30 and eSprinter. The NCV3 Sprinter (2007–2018) uses a different hinge design and a different door shape — the mounting geometry and anchor points don't match the VS30 structure. The rack will not fit NCV3 models, even if aftermarket 180-degree hinges have been installed.
Do I need 180° rear door hinges to install the Starboard Rack?
The rack mounts to the factory hinge position and installs without the 180° upgrade. The upgrade is recommended when loading the rack with heavy or wide accessories — a standard-swing door may not open far enough to clear a loaded rack. The bundle variant includes passenger-side 180° hinges.
What accessories are compatible with the Starboard Rack?
The rack face runs the same 3/8" carriage bolt + 1/4" hole grid as the Port Rack. Compatible accessories include the SV Boost Box Mini, SV spare tire bracket, and KUAT bike rack brackets. Reach out to us at contact@sandyvans.com if you have questions about a specific accessory.
Can I run both the Port and Starboard Rack?
Yes — that's the most common setup. Both racks are designed to look symmetrical from behind the van and share the same face attachment pattern, so any SV accessory works on either side.
Can I install the Starboard Rack myself?
Yes. Similar to the Port Rack, it's a 1–2 hour DIY install with basic tools. The main difference is removing the Mercedes emblem (it's adhered in addition to bolted, so a firm pull is needed after the Torx bolts are out) and using the extension bracket instead of a license plate backer. An install video and PDF manual are included.
How does the Starboard Rack achieve 150 lbs without drilling?
The Starboard Rack mounts to the factory holes behind the Mercedes emblem and the factory 180° hinge bolts. No holes are drilled through the door panel.

The emblem mounting holes sit higher on the door and are positioned in a structurally stronger part of the door frame than the license plate zone used by the Port Rack. That difference in mounting location is what gives the Starboard Rack a higher no-drill capacity (150 lbs vs. 100 lbs for the Port Rack).

Most rear door racks that push past these limits drill through the door panel for a more rigid anchor — which does raise capacity, but leaves a permanent hole. Both SV racks use factory mounting points only, so both are fully reversible.
Does the Starboard Rack work with 270° hinges? What's the difference from 180° hinges?
The rack mounts to two specific bolt holes built into the 180° Sprinter hinges. Those holes are the anchor point for the no-drill mounting method — they're what makes attaching a rear rack without touching the door panel possible.

270° hinges use a different mechanism and don't have those same two bolt holes, so the rack cannot mount to them. If you currently have 270° hinges and want to run a rear rack, reach out to us at contact@sandyvans.com before ordering.

One more thing to know: with 180° hinges and a loaded rack (bike, Boost Box, fuel can), the door won't swing to a true 180°. The cargo will contact the bump stops before the door reaches full extension. That's by design — the bump stops are there to prevent a loaded rack from swinging all the way back and hitting the van body. It's not a defect; it's the rack doing its job.
