The SOK 206Ah is a 12V LiFePO4 battery in a metal case with a built-in heater, Bluetooth monitoring, and a replaceable BMS and cells. It charges below freezing and is backed by a 7-year warranty.

Why we use SOK batteries

Our vans camp in the cold, and most lithium batteries can't charge below freezing. The SOK has heater pads built in, so it charges down to -4 F. The metal case and replaceable BMS and cells mean it can be serviced instead of thrown away.

Building a bigger bank

Parallel: supported for more capacity.
Series: up to 4 in series, with a battery voltage balancer.
When you connect batteries together, bring them to the same state of charge first.

Monitoring

Download the ABC-BMS app to see charge, voltage and temperature over Bluetooth. The state-of-charge reading takes two full charge and discharge cycles to calibrate.

Mistakes to avoid

More than 4 in series. SOK allows up to 4 in series, with a voltage balancer.
Connecting at different states of charge. Charge each battery to the same level before connecting them together.
Trusting the first SOC reading. Run two full cycles to calibrate it.

How to choose a van battery

1. How much capacity do you need?

How to choose: Add up your daily use. 206 Ah (about 2.6 kWh) runs a fridge, fans, lights and devices for a day or more for most van setups.

2. Will you camp in the cold?

How to choose: Lithium can't charge below freezing without help. Pick a heated battery if you camp in winter.

3. How much power do you pull at once?

How to choose: Match continuous discharge to your inverter. The SOK delivers 170 A continuous.

4. Will you expand later?

How to choose: Pick a battery that supports parallel banks, and check its series limit.
