The Overhead Shelf & Privacy Bundle puts our three cab upgrades in one box: the SV Overhead Cab Shelf turns the empty space above the front seats into a full-width shelf, the SV Cab Curtain Divider hangs from the shelf's curtain rod to close off the cab at night, and the SV Overhead Cab Organizer closes off the front of the shelf so gear stays put, even when you're climbing a steep grade. Everything is sized to work together, and buying the bundle costs less than buying all three separately.

Product Details

The whole cab upgrade, done once

Every Sprinter has the same three cab problems: a big empty space over the front seats, a windshield that lets in light and lets people look in, and loose gear that ends up on the floor or in your lap. This bundle solves all three with parts designed to fit together, so you install once and you're done.

Shelf: the foundation

The SV Overhead Cab Shelf bolts to factory mounting points above the driver and passenger seats. It's black powder-coated aluminum, and has slotted mounts so you can shift it front to back and side to side. A curtain rod and L brackets come with it, which is what the curtain hangs from.

Curtain: privacy and better sleep

The SV Cab Curtain Divider is insulated, not just dark. It blocks morning light, keeps prying eyes out, and helps keep the cab's heat or cold on its side of the van. A magnetic center split lets you walk through, side magnets hold the edges to the door frames to stop light leaks, and buckles with magnets let you secure it to one side while you drive or when you want it open. A Velcro bottom extension is included if you want it to reach the floor.

Organizer: close off the cavity

The SV Overhead Cab Organizer attaches to the front of the shelf with Velcro up top and screws on the bottom. The whole front unzips and drops down for full access, or use the middle zipper to grab a jacket without opening everything. On the back side there's a clear pouch for sunscreen and small stuff, side pockets for remotes, and hang loops for carabiners, a walkie-talkie, or lanterns.

All three pieces are made to work together, and buying the bundle costs less than buying each one separately. If you already own one piece, you can still buy the others on their own.

Plan on about 3.5 to 5.5 hours for all three pieces with hand tools and no drilling: the shelf first, then the curtain on the shelf's rod, then the organizer on the front of the shelf.

Order of install

Install the shelf brackets at the factory coat hook and front screw locations, then bolt the shelf on (the shelf install video on this page walks through it)
Bolt on the curtain rod L brackets and screw in the curtain rod
Hang the curtain on the rod and test the side magnets against the door frames
Attach the organizer: Velcro along the top, then screw the bottom in place

Mistakes to avoid

Hand-tighten all eight shelf bolts first, center the shelf, then tighten. Locking down one corner early throws off the fit
Install the curtain rod before you put gear on the shelf, it's much easier with the shelf empty
Clip the curtain back before driving so it isn't flapping around the cab

How to choose an overhead cab storage and privacy setup

Here's what customers ask about, in the order they ask it.

1. Will it fit my van?

Overhead shelves are built around a specific roof and headliner. A shelf made for one generation of Sprinter won't line up with the mounting points on another.

How to choose: Match the shelf to your exact van generation and roof height, and make sure it uses factory mounting points.

2. Drill or no drill?

Some setups need new holes in the headliner or roof ribs. Others bolt to existing factory hardware.

How to choose: If you want an easy install and a clean resale, pick a shelf that uses factory points.

3. Will the curtain actually block light?

Thin curtains glow at sunrise and leak light at the edges. Insulation and side closures make the difference.

How to choose: Look for insulated fabric plus a way to seal the sides against the door frames.

4. Can you still walk through?

If the curtain is a hassle to pass through, you'll leave it open. And when you do want it open, it should stay out of the way.

How to choose: A split center with magnets is the easiest to walk through, and a curtain you can secure to one side is the easiest to live with during the day.

5. Does gear stay on the shelf?

An open shelf works on flat ground. Drive up a steep grade and loose gear slides back off the shelf and into the van.

How to choose: Add a front organizer that closes off the shelf cavity so nothing slides out on climbs.

Can I buy the pieces separately?

Yes. The shelf, curtain, and organizer are each sold on their own. The curtain hangs from the rod that comes with the SV Overhead Cab Shelf. The organizer needs an overhead shelf to mount to: it's made for ours and works with most others, but we can't guarantee fitment on other shelves.

Does it fit low roof or pre-2019 Sprinters?

It's made for the 2019+ Sprinter (VS30) high roof and doesn't fit the Ford Transit or Ram ProMaster. Customers with 2007-2018 NCV3 Sprinters have modified the brackets to make it work, depending on what their rearview mirror area looks like, but we don't support it.

Do I need to drill?

No. The shelf uses factory mounting points, the curtain hangs on the included rod, and the organizer attaches to the shelf.

Can I walk through the curtain?

Yes. The center is split and held closed with magnets, so you just push through. You can also secure the curtain to one side when you want the cab open.

Will this fit my Sprinter-based RV (Revel, Storyteller, Airstream, and others)?

Most Class B RVs built on the 2019+ Mercedes Sprinter share the same body, so it usually fits. Fitment can change with trim level and factory accessories, so reach out to our team at products@sandyvans.com or (619) 812-1903 with your model and year and we'll confirm before you order.
