The Mother of All Brackets.

The GoCode MOAB is a heavy-duty fold-down bracket for van countertop extensions and bench seats that need to stay put on the road. A gas strut keeps the extension from bouncing, dual magnetic latches stop the rattle, and a spring-loaded handle lets you drop or stow it with one hand. Folded, it sits about 1.25 in off the cabinet.

Fits: Universal, any van (Sprinter, Transit, ProMaster), RV or camper cabinet you can bolt through. Not compatible: panels you can't reach behind for the nuts, or extensions over 20 in wide per bracket.

Why the MOAB

Most fold-down brackets are fine in a kitchen and miserable in a van. Every bump makes the countertop bounce and the hinge rattle. The MOAB adds a gas strut to hold the extension down while you drive and two magnetic latches to keep it quiet, so you get extra counter or seat space without the noise.

Specs that matter

Each bracket is rated to a 95 lb working load and was stress-tested to 270 lb. A single 3 in wide bracket supports up to a 20 in wide extension on its own. Folded flat it sticks out only about 1.25 in from the cabinet.

Mistakes to avoid

Mount it to a panel you can reach behind. Carriage bolts need a washer and nut on the back side.
Set the bracket height so the extension sits level with your countertop when it's open.
Stay within the 95 lb working load per bracket.
Make sure the extension clears drawers, doors and handles when it folds down.

How to choose a folding countertop bracket for a van

1. How much weight will it carry?

Countertop extensions carry dishes and appliances. Bench seats carry people.

How to choose: Add up the weight and stay within 95 lb per bracket. For heavier loads use the Bracket Pair.

2. How wide is the extension?

A single MOAB supports up to a 20 in wide extension.

How to choose: Up to 20 in wide, one bracket can do it. For longer extensions you want supported at both ends, choose the Bracket Pair.

3. Will it rattle on the road?

Brackets without a lock tend to bounce and rattle when you drive.

How to choose: Pick a bracket with a strut or latch that holds the extension down.

4. Can you bolt through the panel?

Through-bolting with carriage bolts is the strongest mount.

How to choose: Make sure you can reach the back of the cabinet face for the nuts.
