The Boost Box Mini started with a simple problem: van lifers needed more gear storage outside the van, but most aftermarket boxes were big, heavy, or required drilling into sheet metal.

We built the Boost Box Mini to solve that. It's a compact, lockable aluminum storage locker that mounts directly to your rear rack — no drilling required on Sandy Vans racks. The drain holes keep rain out. The powder-coat finish handles UV, trail dust, and everything in between.

Small enough to leave room on your rack for bikes or boards. Solid enough to hold tools, recovery gear, or your extra shoes. Available in a Crown configuration if you need to stack up.

Designed and assembled in San Diego. Built to go wherever you go.

Drilling RequiredNo for SV racks — pre-drilled. Optional 3/8" drill bit for non-SV mounts.

The Boost Box Mini uses a 4-bolt mount — two bolts slot down into the rack notch at the rear, two at the front. The key is making sure the bolts seat INTO the rack notch rather than sitting on top of it; if you skip that step the box will feel loose. Once bolts are positioned correctly, run down your lock nuts and washers with a 9/16" wrench or socket.

The left side (driver's side) can be tighter to reach depending on your van's rear door swing. Having a second person hold the box in position while you get the first nut started makes it much easier. Most solo installs take about an hour; with help, 30 minutes.

If mounting to a non-Sandy Vans rack: mark and drill four 3/8" holes in the rack rail before placing the box. Confirm hole spacing against the Mini's bolt holes before drilling.

How to Choose the Right Exterior Storage Locker

Exterior storage lockers for vans vary widely in material, mounting method, size, and weather resistance. Here are four things to evaluate before buying.

1. Material — Aluminum vs. Plastic vs. Steel

Aluminum is the standard for quality van build accessories: it doesn't rust, handles UV without fading, and stays light. Plastic boxes are cheaper but crack in cold and deform in heat. Steel adds unnecessary weight and will rust at mount points. The Boost Box Mini is .080" aluminum with a powder-coat finish — same spec as aircraft and marine hardware.

2. Mounting Method

The Boost Box Mini uses a 4-bolt pattern that drops into the pre-drilled holes on Sandy Vans racks. No van modification required on SV racks. For non-SV racks, you only need to drill four 3/8" holes in the rack rail itself.

3. Drainage — Does it Pool Water?

A locker without drain holes becomes a bucket in the rain. The Boost Box Mini has built-in drain holes at the base so water runs through rather than sitting on your gear.

4. Expandability — What If You Need More Later?

If you think you might need more storage down the road, start with the Boost Box Mini and add the Boost Box Mini Crown later. The Crown stacks directly on top — same footprint, same hardware, no extra drilling.
