The SV Surf Rack was built by surfers, for surfers — but it doesn't stop at boards.

Mount it to your Sandy Vans Starboard or Port Rear Rack and it flips down in under a minute. You get a foam-padded tray with individually adjustable, telescoping arms — load in a shortboard, a foamie, a mid-length, skis, or snowboards. Each board sits against its own padded arm with an independent strap, and C-deck foam at the base keeps your tail off bare metal.

Done with the swell? Boards come off, rack goes up. The whole assembly folds back against your rear doors — low profile, nothing sticking out into the parking lot.

Headed to the mountains or deep into camp? Fold the arms flat instead. Now the tray is open — ready for a bundle of firewood, a pair of jerry cans, a dry bag, or anything that won't fit inside. Same mount, same pins, different configuration.

No drilling required. The SV Surf Rack mounts entirely to your Sandy Vans Starboard or Port Rear Rack — the van itself stays untouched.

To deploy the rack

Pull the spring pins on the tray to release it. The tray flips down.
Insert the pins in the locked position to hold the tray in place.
Tray mode: load firewood, jerry cans, or gear directly onto the tray. Done.
Board mode: flip your arm(s) up to vertical. Slide each arm along the tray rail to your preferred spacing.
If you need more reach for a wider board, pop the telescoping extension to extend the arm further.
Place the board tail-first on the C-deck foam pad at the tray base and rest it against the arm.
Feed the strap around the board and tighten to secure. Repeat for each board.

To stow the rack

Remove boards and fold arms back down flat.
Pull the pins, flip the tray back up against the rear doors, and re-insert pins in the stowed position.
The rack sits low profile against the doors — no bulk sticking out.

How to Choose Your SV Surf Rack

The SV Surf Rack is one of a kind — the only vertical rear-mounted board carrier made for adventure van builds. There are no direct competitors to compare it to. This guide walks you through the decisions that matter: prerequisite check, the right capacity, and how the three modes map to your actual use.

1. Do you have a rear door rack installed?

The SV Surf Rack mounts to any rear door rack — no specific brand required. If you already have one installed, you’re ready to order. If you don’t have one yet, our Sandy Vans Starboard or Port Rear Rack is purpose-built for Sprinter builds and the most common pairing. 2. Will your boards clear the roofline?

We do not recommend loading boards that extend above your roofline. The bottom of the tray typically sits at the height of the bottom of your rear door opening — so the usable vertical space runs from there up to the top of your roof. Exact clearance depends on your board length, van height, and whether you have a roof rack that changes the effective roofline. Measure your board against that distance before ordering. 3. How many boards do you usually travel with?

The rack comes in 2, 3, or 4 Dividers. Each slot holds one board or ski, individually positioned and strapped. Pick the count that matches your typical quiver on the road. Solo surfer? 2 Dividers is plenty. Family trips or a full quiver call for 3 or 4. The base tray, hardware, and mounting are identical across all variants — you’re only choosing how many Dividers come with the rack.

4. What type of boards are you carrying?

The telescoping arms and adjustable rail positioning make the rack adaptable. Shortboards, foamies, and mid-lengths are confirmed fits. Skis and snowboards work too — arms dial in for width and straps keep them secured vertically. For longboards, measure your clearance before ordering. Very long boards may exceed roofline height.

5. Do you need the rack to do more than carry boards?

The tray mode is a real use case, not a side note. When the Dividers fold flat, the rack base becomes an open carrying platform — useful for bundled firewood, fuel jerry cans, overland gear bags, or anything bulky you want outside the van. If you need that flexibility, you get it here with no extra accessories.

6. Rear door vs. roof vs. inside storage

Roof-mounted board transport means climbing up and back every single session. Inside the van means wet, sandy boards coating your gear and interior. The rear-door position lets you load and unload from the ground, keeps wet boards outside, and when the rack stows it folds flat against the doors — not sticking out sideways or eating up interior space.
