Product Details

These are genuine factory Mercedes-Benz 180-degree rear door hinges for the VS30/907 Sprinter platform. Unlike the stock hinges that stop your rear doors at around 90 degrees, these swap in as a direct replacement and let each door swing all the way to 180 degrees — flat against the side of the van — and hold there.

The practical payoff is rack mounting. Sandy Vans rear racks and many third-party carriers bolt directly into threaded holes in the door hinges. The 180-degree stop is what makes that work: accessories mounted to the door won't swing past parallel, so nothing catches the bodywork or the frame when you open up.

We source these straight from Mercedes-Benz because the factory part is the right part. The hinge body arrives raw from MB, and we paint them black before they ship. They are not powder coated — powder coating requires heat that degrades the rubber bushings inside the hinge, and those bushings are what keep your door moving smoothly and sealing properly for years. Paint preserves them.

Each SKU is a pair — upper and lower hinge for one side. Passenger = right door, Driver = left door. Most rack builds require both sides: pair the Driver hinges with the SV Port Rack, the Passenger hinges with the SV Starboard Rack, or either side with the SV Spare Tire Rack. All three racks are available as bundles that include the matching hinges.

Replace one door at a time so the opposite door stays as an alignment reference. Do not remove both hinges simultaneously.

Steps

Open the rear door fully and support it — have a helper hold the door or use a door-support strap.
Locate the upper and lower factory hinges. Each hinge is secured to the door body and to the door panel with E12 external Torx bolts.
Break loose all hinge bolts before removing any. Once loose, remove the bolts securing the hinge to the door panel first, then the door body.
Seat the 180-degree hinge in position. Thread all bolts in by hand before applying any torque.
Close the door and check the gap around the perimeter against the opposite door. Adjust hinge position while bolts are still hand-tight.
Once the gap is even, torque the door-body side first, then the door-panel side.
Open the door fully to confirm 180-degree stop engages cleanly. Check door closure and latch.

Alignment note

This is the step that takes time. The factory gap was set precisely at the plant. Work in small adjustments — the hinge slots allow a few millimeters of movement. A helper who can watch the gap from outside while you adjust from inside speeds this up considerably.

Do you need 180-degree hinges for your rack?

Check your rack's mounting spec. Sandy Vans rear racks — the SV Port Rack (driver), SV Starboard Rack (passenger), and SV Spare Tire Rack — bolt directly into the door hinge and require threaded hinge holes and a 180-degree stop to function safely. All three are also available as bundles that include the matching hinges, which saves the separate order. If your carrier mounts to the bumper or the chassis instead of the door, you may not need these hinges.

Passenger, Driver, or Both?

Passenger = right door (pairs with the Starboard Rack). Driver = left door (pairs with the Port Rack). Each SKU is a pair — upper and lower hinge for one side. Most rack builds span both doors and require one of each. If you're only adding an accessory to one door, order that side only.

Painted vs. powder coated — does it matter?

Yes, for this part. Powder coating uses heat that damages the rubber bushings inside the hinge. Those bushings control movement and contribute to the door seal. We paint instead of powder coat specifically to preserve them. If you find a cheaper hinge that says it's powder coated, that's a sign it's either a lower-grade part or the bushings have already been compromised.

Does this use my van's existing mounting hardware?

Yes. These bolt in using your Sprinter's stock hinge hardware. No new fasteners are included or required.

Do I need 180-degree hinges to mount a rear rack?

It depends on the rack. Some rear carriers — including Sandy Vans rear racks — bolt directly to the door hinge and require threaded mounting holes that standard 270-degree hinges don't have. Check your rack's install guide. If it calls for 180-degree hinges, these are the ones.

Why OEM Mercedes-Benz instead of aftermarket?

The factory hinge is built to the exact tolerances of your Sprinter door system. Aftermarket alternatives are commonly powder coated — which, as covered above, damages the rubber bushings. We went straight to Mercedes for the factory part.

What's the tricky part of the install?

Alignment. The factory door seal was set precisely at the plant and you want to maintain that gap. After mounting both hinges finger-tight, close the door slowly and look for light gaps. If the door isn't sitting flush, loosen the off hinge and adjust. The install video walks through exactly how to spot and fix alignment issues before final torque.
