Sprinter Van Slider Door Bug Screen 2007+

Installation is a no-drill process that takes 2–3 hours. The screen attaches to the existing weather stripping and metal edge of your slider door opening using the included metal clips and clamps — no modifications to your van required.

If your Sprinter has an electric door latch (2025+ models with the button or electric assist), use the included velcro patch at the handle location before mounting the screen. For older standard-style handles, skip the velcro patch and proceed with the standard install. Either way the screen fits clean and closes flat.

Start at the top corners and work down the sides, clipping every 6–8 inches. Clean the metal lip with isopropyl alcohol before clipping for best adhesion. Leave a little slack in the mesh — the magnets need slight play to align and close cleanly when you shut the door.

Important: when trimming, cut the mesh so it ends just short of the weather seal — do not let it extend past the seal edge. If the fabric overlaps the weather seal, it will act as a wick and draw moisture into the van.

When not in use, simply roll up the screen and secure it out of the way so it stays clear of the door track.

Choosing a Bug Screen: What Actually Matters

There are dozens of van bug screens out there and most look identical in photos. The differences show up in daily use. Here are the decisions that matter, in order.

1. Magnet Position: Side or Middle?

This is our most common question, and almost nobody thinks about it before buying. Middle magnet parts in the center like curtains — symmetrical and intuitive, but you push through fabric on both sides. Side magnet puts the seam toward one edge so one large panel swings clear, more like a real door.

How to choose: look at what is directly inside your slider. If there is a counter, fridge, or cabinet on one side, go Side Magnet and put the seam on the open side so your walkway is not fighting the closure. If your slider opens into clear floor space, Middle Magnet feels more natural to most people.

2. Permanent Mount or Put It Up Every Stop?

Removable magnetic screens stick to bare metal and pack into a bag. Fast to deploy, but they only grip where metal is exposed, rarely seal at the bottom, and realistically you stop bothering after a few nights.

Permanently mounted screens clip into the weather stripping and stay put, rolling up out of the way when you want the door clear. Install once, then never think about it again. If you sleep in your van more than a couple weeks a year, go permanent. Ours is a permanent mount that rolls up.

3. How It Attaches (This Is Your Wind Performance)

Magnet-to-body screens rely on magnet strength against sheet metal. Fine in still air, but in a strong crosswind they billow, break contact, and let bugs in. This is the single most common complaint about generic screens in van forums.

Weather-strip clip mounting tucks the screen edge behind the door gasket and captures it mechanically with metal clips. The screen becomes part of the door opening instead of something stuck to it. Look for a kit with at least two clip sizes — the metal thickness around a Sprinter door frame changes as you work around the opening, and some spots have two layers sandwiched together. Ours includes both sizes.

4. Mesh Fineness

Standard window screen (roughly 18x16 strands per inch) stops houseflies and mosquitoes but not the small stuff. No-see-um rated mesh is 20x20 or finer, which is the threshold for biting midges (1 to 3mm) and most gnats (2 to 5mm). If you camp coastal, in the Southeast, near marshland, or the Pacific Northwest in summer, you want the finer weave. Also ask whether the mesh is transparent or opaque — transparent micro-mesh keeps your view; some budget screens use mesh dark enough that you feel closed in.

5. Door Handle Compatibility

2025+ Sprinters have an electric assist door with a button or electric latch instead of the older mechanical handle. That hardware sits differently, and a screen built around the old handle will not clear it. Ask directly whether a screen fits the electric latch. Also watch how they solved it: velcro running the full length of an edge will drag across your mesh and snag it over a season. A small velcro patch at the handle location only avoids that entirely, which is the approach we use.

6. Van-Specific vs. Universal Sizing

Universal screens are cut oversized and leave the pattern-making to you. A van-specific cut sits flat and seals at the edges. Confirm High Roof vs. Low Roof before ordering — these are different openings and a High Roof screen will not fit a Low Roof van. Also check whether your interior trim covers the door frame, since clip-mount screens need access to the metal lip.
