22 gallons of water in space you weren't using.

This 22 gallon wheel well water tank sits on top of the rear wheel well inside your Mercedes Sprinter, so your fresh water lives in a spot that's usually dead space. The tank ends right where the wheel well ends, so furniture forward of it isn't affected. It's food grade, BPA-free polyethylene, TEI tested and listed, and it straps to the van with the included straps and hardware.

Fits: 2007+ Mercedes Sprinter 144", 170" and 170" EXT (single rear wheel). Also fits 2015+ Ford Transit 130" and 148".
Not compatible: Dually (dual rear wheel) vans.

  • About 22 gallons, about 44.5" L x 12.5" W x 16" H
  • 24 lb dry
  • Six threaded NPT ports for fill, vent, pump feed and a level sensor
  • Straps, plus nuts and bolts included
  • TEI tested and listed, RVIA compliant

Choose your variant: Driver or Passenger side. The two tanks are mirror images. Run one on each side for about 44 gallons.

Feed it with a SEAFLO 33 Series Water Pump. Want water under the van instead? See the 22 Gallon Driver Side Undercarriage Tank and the 16 Gallon Passenger Side Undercarriage Tank.

Product Details

Water storage that doesn't eat your floor

Fresh water takes up room, and in a van every inch counts. The rear wheel wells are already there, and the space on top of them usually ends up as a dead corner. This tank is shaped to wrap over the wheel well, so you carry about 22 gallons without giving up floor space.

Shaped for the wheel well

The underside is cut out to match the wheel well, and the front of the tank stops where the wheel well ends. Cabinets, a galley or a bench can start right in front of it.

Ports where you need them

The tank has six threaded ports: a 1-1/2" NPT port on top, two 1-1/2" and two 1/2" NPT ports on the front end, and a 1/2" NPT port low on the back end. Use the top port for a 15 inch level sensor, the upper front ports for fill and vent, and the lower 1/2" port on the front end to feed a forward-mounted pump without running line down the side of the tank.

Pick a side, or both

Driver and passenger tanks are mirror images. Choose the side that puts water closest to your galley and pump, or run one on each side for about 44 gallons.

Built and listed for RV use

The tank is food grade, BPA-free polyethylene, pressure tested at the factory, and TEI tested and listed and RVIA compliant. Pair it with a SEAFLO 33 Series Water Pump to complete your fresh water system.

What's in the Box

  • 22 gallon wheel well water tank (driver or passenger)
  • 2 hold-down straps
  • 4 M10 x 1.50 plus nuts
  • 4 class 10.9 black phosphate bolts
  • Plus nut install tool
DIY FriendlyYes, with basic plumbing skills
Drilling RequiredYes, four plus nut holes

The tank sits on top of the rear wheel well and is held down by two straps. Each strap end bolts into a plus nut set in the van sheet metal. You drill the holes, set the four M10 plus nuts with the included tool, then bolt the straps down over the tank. Where the sheet metal dips, you may need a couple of washers or a bushing so the strap sits flush.

Plumb a gravity fill with 1-1/4 inch RV fill hose (a 90 degree 1-1/2 to 1-1/4 inch fitting lets you turn it toward the side), and run a 1/2 inch vent line. A 15 inch level sensor threads into the top port; it is sold separately. There is no customer install manual on this page yet, so reach out to our team with questions.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Ordering for a dually. This tank does not fit dual rear wheel vans.
  • Forgetting the weight. A full tank weighs about 207 lb, so strap it down before you drive.
  • Skipping the vent. Without a vent line the tank fills slowly and can gurgle or overflow at the fill.
  • Running feed line the long way. Use the low 1/2 inch port at the front end to feed a forward-mounted pump.
  • Leaving straps loose where the floor dips. Shim with washers or a bushing so each strap sits flush.

Tools You'll Need

  • Drill and bits sized for M10 plus nuts
  • Open-end wrench for the plus nut tool
  • Socket or wrench for the strap bolts
  • Thread sealant rated for potable water

How to choose a wheel well water tank

Here's what customers ask, in order.

1. Will it fit your van?

It fits 2007+ Mercedes Sprinter 144", 170" and 170" EXT with single rear wheels, plus 2015+ Ford Transit 130" and 148". It does not fit duallys.

How to choose: Single rear wheel Sprinter or Transit: it fits. Dually: look at undercarriage tanks.

2. Driver or passenger side?

The two tanks are mirror images. The side you choose decides how far your water lines run.

How to choose: Put the tank on the same side as your galley and pump. Need more water: order one of each.

3. How much water do you need?

One tank holds about 22 gallons. Two tanks hold about 44.

How to choose: Weekend trips or a light galley: one tank. Long stays off grid or a shower: two tanks, or add an undercarriage tank.

4. Inside or under the van?

A wheel well tank stays warm with the cabin and is easy to reach. An undercarriage tank frees up the wheel well for storage or seating.

How to choose: Cold weather camping or easy access: wheel well tank. Wheel wells already used: 22 gallon or 16 gallon undercarriage tank.

Before you order

  • Confirm a single rear wheel Sprinter or Transit
  • Pick driver or passenger side
  • Plan your pump, fill and vent locations
  • Decide if you want a level sensor (sold separately)
  • Check that nothing is mounted over the wheel well

How this wheel well tank stacks up

  • Plumbing: six NPT ports, including a low front feed and a top sensor port.
  • Build: food grade, BPA-free, TEI tested and listed, RVIA compliant.
  • System: feed it with a SEAFLO 33 Series pump.
